The following book reviews have been published for North American Projectile Points. Review by: Gary Fogelman, Editor/publisher: Indian Artifact Magazine In: Indian Artifact Magazine, Vol. 26, No. 3, page 24. North American Projectile Points by Wm Jack Hranicky, 8-1/4 x 11, 435pp., Hundreds and hundreds of b/w photos/illus., paper ISBN: 978-1-4259-9768-7. AuthorHouse, 1663 Liberty Drive, Suite 200, Bloomington, IN 47403. www.authorhouse.com. 1-800-839-8640. Another tome from Jack Hranicky, this is another book that you’ll want to put on your shelf, and I haven’t even read it fully yet! A late arrival, I’ve only glanced through it, but like his other books you really can’t just glance through it without being drawn to something you need to check out. From Abasalo to Zorra, and all the hundreds in between, the author has attempted to list and describe and in many instances illustrate all the point types in the U.S. Each is described and illustrated and the references listed where the information came from. That means a great list of references. The author fills the initial pages with much useful information on points and typology, a look at past typology and classification work. There is also a section that looks at all the various worlds that artifacts affect: collectors, archaeologists, fakers, etc. Just a whole bunch of information, a book that of an evening you’ll want to pull off the shelf and peruse, above and beyond the use you’ll give it looking things up and using it as a reference. If you don’t have this, get it. If you don’t have Jack’s other books, put yourself on a course to acquire them. There’s a wealth of knowledge and information involved here, and you should expose yourself to it. **************************** |
